LARRY WHORLEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Whorley of 633 Murray Ave. S.E., has been named social worker of the year at the Lexington, Ky., Veterans Affairs Hospital, where he is the substance abuse treatment program coordinator.

Whorley also was named social worker of the year by the Blue Grass and Kentucky chapters of the National Association of Social Workers.

Whorley has a doctorate in social work from the University of Maryland. He is a 1967 graduate of William Fleming High School and has a bachelor of science degree from Virginia Tech and a master of social work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
