REGULATORS WON'T BAN BABY WALKERS
Federal regulators refused Thursday to ban baby walkers, rolling devices that allow infants to propel themselves before they can walk but that doctors say pose serious risks of injury.By a 3-0 vote, the Consumer Product Safety Commission rejected a petition filed in August by the American Academy of Pediatrics and consumer groups to ban baby walkers as a mechanical hazard.
But the panel also voted, 2-1, to direct its staff to prepare by next month's meeting a recommendation for "an appropriate course of action for the commission to adopt in addressing the alleged hazards posed by baby walkers."
