LAUREL PARK GIRLS WIN TRACK MEET

Valencia Eggleston and Miranda Hairston each captured two events, leading Laurel Park to victory in a five-way girls' track meet involving Piedmont District schools in Martinsville.

The host Lancers finished with 97 points. Patrick County was second with 72, followed by Martinsville (62), Bassett (25) and Fieldale-Collinsville (16).

Eggleston won the 100- and 200-meter hurdles, while Hairston took the 800 and 3,200 runs.

Michelle Stewart was a double winner for Patrick County, taking the 100 and 200 runs.

\ BOYS' TRACK: At Martinsville, Dennis Green won the 100 and 200 runs, sparking Martinsville to an easy win in a five-way meet involving Piedmont District schools. The Bulldogs finished with 116 points. Bassett was second with 59, followed by Fieldale-Collinsville (49), Laurel Park (45) and Patrick County (41). Patrick's James Clanton also was a double winner, capturing the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

\ BASEBALL: At Covington, David Dixon was 4-for-4 with a solo home run and got the pitching win as Alleghany beat Covington 16-7. Dixon threw six innings, allowing seven hits and striking out seven. Covington's Mark Folks was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Alleghany is 6-0; Covington is 3-4-1.

At Wytheville, Jeff Woodard pitched five innings and went 2-for-4 with an RBI as Northwood beat George Wythe 5-2 in a Hogoheegee District game. Matt Sark was 2-for-2 for George Wythe (2-4, 2-4).

\ SOFTBALL: At Glenvar, Bobbie Jo Wright and Kim Martin collaborated on a one-hitter as Glenvar ripped winless Bath County 25-0 in a Pioneer District game. Amy Vonderhofen was 2-for-4 with four RBI for Glenvar (2-3 overall, 2-0 district). Bath County is 0-3, 0-2.
