I thought MCI was offering a helpful booklet - "An Organized Approach to Getting a Job (In a Crazy Mixed-up Job Market)" - for college students, with no strings attached. I was wrong. There, near the back, were some pages plugging the telephone company's "Friends and Family" service.
"Chances are, you'll be making a lot of telephone calls during your job search," it says and goes on to devote three pages on the virtues of being an MCI subscriber.
But what can one expect? It's free.
There are sections on developing a plan of action and motivational tips, such as "enjoy the experience" and "keep a sense of humor." There are tips on writing a resume and cover letter and getting through an interview. And there's a note pad to jot down "People to Call."
The idea came from Jack O'Brien's "Kiplinger's Career Starter," and MCI stuck an order page for his book in the back.
To get the booklet, you guessed it, call MCI at 1-800-283-5617.
