WSLS NAMES WEEKEND ANCHOR

Justin Ditmore, a photographer and fill-in sportscaster at WSLS for the past eight months, has been named a weekend sports anchor and reporter at Channel 10.

Ditmore, 23, is a Columbia, Md., native. He replaces Pat Frizzell, who resigned at WSLS last month to start a local video production company. Ditmore is a 1991 Virginia Tech graduate, with a degree in communications/broadcasting.

WSLS news director Bill Foy said the station had more than 60 applicants for the job. Ditmore and Scott Rivers, a sports reporter at Channel 10 for six years, were the in-house candidates. Foy said Rivers, a Radford graduate, has decided to resign.

"Justin is pretty solid and has a natural on-air delivery," Foy said. "He's comfortable in the anchor seat. The audience will like him because he'll let his personality shine through."

Ditmore's first weekend anchor stint will be on tonight's newscasts. He will do reporting on weekdays, contributing to sports director Greg Roberts' reports in the Channel 10 newscasts at 5, 6 and 11 p.m.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity," Ditmore said. "This is my first big break into sports, and I appreciate the chance Bill and Greg have given me."
