LONGTIME DEMOCRATS FACING CHALLENGERS

Two veteran Democrats in the House of Delegates will face challengers in the June 8 primaries, the state Board of Elections reported Friday.

Four other contested primaries will be held for open seats, three by Democrats and one by Republicans.

Del. Paul Councill Jr. of Southampton will be challenged for the Democratic nomination in the 75th District by M. Sherlock Holmes of Surry County.

Del. Jay BeBoer of Petersburg faces opposition in the 63rd District from Joseph E. Preston of Petersburg.

The 70th District seat in Richmond that Gov. Douglas Wilder's son, Democratic Del. Larry Wilder, is giving up after a year will be fought over by Terone Green and Dwight Jones in a Democratic primary. - Associated Press
