AFFAIR WITH STUDENT LED TO PROFESSOR'S FIRING
A Christopher Newport University professor who was fired in a student sexual harassment case is seeking reinstatement, claiming the student consented to a relationship. The professor, Jon Petruchyk, "regrets any of this occurred," said his attorney, Barry R. Koch. "It was an unfortunate consensual relationship, but it was not sexual harassment."
The student, 24-year-old Carolyn Creedon, was not in any of Petruchyk's classes.
In a prepared statement, the school said Petruchyk, 51, was "found to have engaged in behavior constituting cause sufficient for dismissal."
Koch said he plans to file an appeal with the board of visitors next week and, if that fails, will take the case to federal court.
