SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN FRANKLIN HOLDUPS
After two convenience store robberies in a week, Franklin County's rural store owners had been alerted about the closing-time holdups. But Thursday night, Franklin County investigators got a break when Roanoke police arrested two men and a woman after the Uni-Mart on Brandon Avenue Southwest was held up.
Roanoke police charged Frank Robert Hill Jr., 31, no address, Denise Ann Bachelder, 33, of East Highland Avenue, and James T. Taylor, 36, no address, with robbery.
After one of the robberies in Franklin County, authorities there notified Roanoke police that the vehicle headed toward Roanoke after leaving the store. Upon arresting the three people Thursday night, Roanoke police called Franklin County investigator Jim Crooke.
Friday, Crooke charged Taylor and Hill each with one count of attempted robbery and one count of robbery. Those charges stem from the April 10 robbery of Mountain View Grocery on Virginia 116 at Windy Gap, and the April 13 attempted robbery of Dillon's grocery on Virginia 670.
"It takes a lot of luck," Crooke said of the arrests, "and good cooperation between the two departments."
Taylor and Hill were served warrants Friday for the Franklin County charges while they were in the Roanoke City Jail.
