HIV-POSITIVE PALACIO STRIPPED OF TITLE
Ruben Palacio, a 30-year-old featherweight from Colombia, became the first boxer to lose a title not to a human opponent but to the human immunodeficiency virus. Palacio, who was to defend his World Boxing Organization crown against England's John Davidson tonight, learned he tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS after the results of a pre-fight blood test were revealed Thursday.\ Julio Cesar Chavez tentatively is set to meet Pernell Whitaker at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, in September, although the weight class and which title will be at stake is undetermined. Chavez is 86-0 with 74 knockouts and Whitaker, of Norfolk, Va., is 32-1 with 15 knockouts.
