RADFORD OVERWHELMS BRISTOL 13-4
John Gegg's two-run home run in the fourth inning blew open the game as Radford rolled over Bristol University 13-4 in college baseball Friday at Dedmon Center Park.Leading 3-0 entering the fourth inning, the Highlanders (17-11) added four runs, two on Gegg's third homer of the season.
A five-run eighth inning sealed the victory.
Radford won for the sixth time in eight games as sophomore pitcher Eric Harris held the Bulldogs to six hits and two earned runs in eight innings. Duane Filchner had four hits for the Highlanders.
At Blacksburg, Virginia Tech's Bryan Hastings pitched a complete game to earn his first win of the season as the Hokies defeated North Carolina-Charlotte 5-2 in a Metro Conference game.
Hastings (1-1) allowed five hits while walking two batters and striking out eight.
With the score 2-2, right fielder J.R. Hawkins hit his seventh home run of the year to give Tech the lead in the sixth inning.
Bo Durak doubled twice for the Hokies (22-8 overall, 4-3 conference). In the eighth inning he drew a two-out walk and scored from first on David Fitt's double.
UNCC is 15-17 and 2-4.
