DUKE WOMEN ATOP ACC GOLF TOURNAMENT FIELD
Stephanie Sparks shot a 2-over-par 74 Friday to remain in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf tournament in Greensboro, N.C., and help keep Duke atop the standings for the second day.Sparks had a two-day total of 142 to lead Wake Forest's Stephanie Neill by two strokes. Duke's Tonya Blosser remained third at 146 followed by Kimberley Byham of North Carolina at 147, Kelly Pittman of Florida State at 150 and Jessica Wood of North Carolina at 153.
Duke saw its lead on the par-72 Bryan Park course dwindle from 11 strokes Thursday to seven Friday as Wake Forest overtook North Carolina for second place. Duke was at 604 followed by Wake Forest (611), North Carolina (614) and Florida State (621).
Darnell Craft and Glenn Prillaman of Roanoke shot a 39 to help the Maroons win the Shipbuilders Invitational golf tournament in Williamsburg. Rain caused the event to be shortened to nine holes.
Roanoke bested the 11-team field with a 161 total, followed by Hampden-Sydney at 162, Christopher Newport at 166, Old Dominion at 167 and Washington and Lee at 172.
Jimmy Kull of Washington and Lee had the best nine-hole score at 38.
Jen Vilord scored five goals to lead Hartwick to a 12-10 upset of the seventh-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team in Oneonta, N.Y.
Lisa Dowling and Angie Carrington each scored four goals for the Generals (9-1).
