OUTBURST HALTS GAME
A boys' soccer game between two of the best teams in the Roanoke Valley was called off in the first half after an altercation between a North Cross player and an official on Friday, according to North Cross coach Richard Cook. With the host Raiders leading 1-0 over Cave Spring, the official ejected Ryan Cook, the coach's son, for continued dissent. The official then called the game after Ryan Cook brushed against him.
"Ryan indicated that he had dissented with profanity not directed at the referee," Richard Cook said. "The referee, hearing this, stopped the game and issued a yellow card. On the way off the field, [Ryan] again said some profanity and was issued the red card."
The coach explained that Ryan Cook then brushed the referee and that the official used his discretion to call the game off. Richard Cook said he the thought the incident would be resolved by representatives of both schools on Monday.
