A MODEST PROPOSAL FOR CHRISTIAN PARENTS

I must admit it, the pluralistic totalitarians at Coalition for Community have given me the solution for the holiday names controversy in the Montgomery County school system. Yes, sir, after reading their hate and bigotry-filled ad in the Sunday Current, I have the solution. Before I share this with you, I wish to debunk the beliefs of the neophyte totalitarians in Montgomery County.

The first idea to debunk is that America was founded on "freedom" and pluralism. Today the word "freedom" is invoked to justify any and every immoral action perpetrated by men whose only higher authority is their own appetites. Freedom to the founders is liberty, which allows men to engage in all activities save those which violate the laws of nature's God or natural law. Only the moral boundaries found in God's law can supply the required order a just society needs, whereas "freedom" leads to destruction of any society that demands responsibility for its members' actions.

The idea that this nation was founded on pluralism would be foreign to the founders. I quote Patrick Henry: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians. . . . For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded prosperity, asylum and freedom of worship here." He understood that only where Christianity is the foundation to government can diversity, pluralism and freedom survive.

Since we are a diverse culture, we bring many ideas to the public sphere. However, we are also a republic that allows the majority to define the laws by which we live. If the majority of citizens in our diverse culture demands that the "Christian" names be retained, then that is what must necessarily occur. Given that the country is made up overwhelmingly of Christians, it seems obvious which way a referendum would go. Thus, the real goal of Coalition for Community becomes clear: to subvert the republican process in the name of diversity and force their views on the people of Montgomery County no matter how many stand opposed. And this is why they are totalitarians.

Now for the solution. I recommend that all Christian fathers of school-age children bring their wives home from the work force, trust God for the lost income and abandon the public school system by educating their children at home. Your children's education will be superior, the humanists will not get a chance to undermine your authority or belief system, and your children will avoid the peer pressure that leads to premarital sex, drugs and violence.

Let the schools change the names. It is just one more step in the de-Christianizing of America. The only question you must ask yourself, Christian father, is: Will I be an accomplice by allowing my child to be the victim of humanists, or will I accept my God-given responsibility and raise the next generation of educated leaders who will guide the sheep produced by the failed public school system?\ Timothy M.
