LACROSSE-WASHINGTON DEFEATS W&L 12-10
Greg Lawler had two assists and three goals, including a tie-breaking one with six minutes left in the fourth period as No. 5-ranked Washington College beat No. 11 Washington and Lee 12-10 in a Division III game at Chestertown, Md.Andy Dutton's shot to tie for the Generals (7-2) was blocked by goalie John Lundberg, who had 14 saves, and Chris Cote scored the final goal on a fast break for Washington (9-1).
David Lefkowitz had four goals, including all three of W&L's in the second half. Weimi Douoguih had three goals and an assist for the Generals, who led 7-5 in second half. Brian Murtagh had a career-high 22 saves. W&L plays at Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday.
In Columbus, Ohio, Ohio State bolted to a 16-5 lead at halftime and held off VMI 22-17.
Mike Peters had four goals for the Keydets (5-6), and Dan Delawyer and David Belfiore added three goals each. Belfiore had all his goals in the fourth quarter, when VMI outscored the Buckeyes 8-4.
Ohio State (6-4) had eight goals in each of the first two periods. David Blue had six goals for the Buckeyes.
At Hempstead, N.Y., Dave Donatello scored three goals, including the winning goal in overtime, as Hofstra slipped past Virginia 7-6.
Kevin Pehlke, who led the Cavaliers with three goals, opened the scoring 25 seconds into the game with a goal for Virginia (7-3). Hofstra (7-1) retaliated with a 3-0 run. Kevin Pehlke and Tony Nugent scored in second period to tie the score.
Donatello scored in the third period to give Hofstra a 4-3 lead, but Cavalier Greg Traynor made the score 4-4.
Each team scored twice in the last period, making the score 6-6 at the end of regulation. Donatello scored the winning goal 1 minute, 35 seconds into the overtime period.
