CARROLL WINS NO-HITTER IN SOFTBALL

Laura Marsh pitched a no-hitter as Carroll County rolled past Virginia High in both games of a non-district softball doubleheader at Hillsville.

Joanie Combs was 2-for-2 and batted in two runs as the Cavaliers shut out Virginia High 12-0 in the no-hitter. Sheila Bunn went 2-for-2, hit a home run and batted in two runs to lead Carroll County (4-2) past Virginia High 9-4 in the second game.

At Danville, Sally Cadwell had two hits and five runs batted in, and Joy Marriccini added three hits and three RBI as Cave Spring swamped G.W. Danville 27-10 in a non-district softball game. The Knights (4-2) rapped 26 hits.

At Fishersville, Travis Fitzgerald pitched a three-hitter and struck out four as Wilson Memorial knocked off undefeated Rockbridge County 11-0 in a non-district baseball game at Fishersville.

Travis Monroe hit a two-run single in the second inning to give Wilson Memorial a 4-0 lead. Wilson Memorial (4-0) parlayed five hits and three errors by the Wildcats (4-1) into five more runs in the fifth inning.

Catcher Davey Layton had two hits for Rockbridge County.
