MEACHAM SHINES IN VMI SCRIMMAGE

Former Lord Botetourt standout Chris Meacham gained 36 yards on six carries and scored a touchdown to lead VMI's offense in a controlled football scrimmage at Alumni Memorial Field in Lexington.

The offense scored three times, and the defense kept the offense from crossing the 20-yard line on four possessions. The scoring plays come on a 50-yard scramble by quarterback Jason Ross, a 3-yard run by Meacham and a 5-yard run by Eric Walker, which capped a 10-play, 50-yard drive.

At Danville, Sally Cadwell had two hits and drove in five runs, and Joy Marriccini added three hits and three RBI as Cave Spring swamped G.W. Danville 27-10 in a non-district high school softball game. The Knights (4-2) rapped 26 hits.

At North Cross, Emma Lee Manetta had 12 saves for the Raiders as Charlottesville defeated North Cross 1-0 in non-district high school soccer. Charlottesville outshot the Raiders 22-11.
