HOKIES FALL TO VCU IN METRO TOURNEY

Virginia Tech's Marcus Kramer won the No. 1 singles title and was chosen the men's MVP of the Metro Conference tennis championships that concluded on Sunday in Blacksburg and Radford. Tech's men's team placed second, and its women's team was fourth.

The top-seeded Virginia Commonwealth men defeated second-seeded Tech 4-3 for the team title. In the consolation round, South Florida defeated Southern Mississippi 4-2.

Kramer, ranked 44th in the nation, defeated 32nd-ranked Isidro Lledo 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 5 singles final, Tech's Scott Cuppett defeated Jonas Elmblad 6-3, 6-0, and Hokie Chris Imensek stopped Fredrik Cosmo 6-1, 6-3 in No. 6 singles.

In the women's competition, the Hokies lost 5-0 to Tulane in the consolation round. Top-seeded South Florida won the championship with a 5-1 victory over VCU.
