NEW STRIPER LAW

Anglers fishing the Cedar Key area of Smith Mountain Lake now are limited to bait only on single-point hooks with weights 12 inches or more above the hook. The new regulation will be enforced through May 31.

The Cedar Key - Witcher Creek - area has a history of attracting spawning striped bass, and snagging violations have been common. Last spring, wardens arrested about 35 people.

The new regulation is designed to make it more difficult to snag fish.
