BLUES ARE SCARCE

A few jumbo-size bluefish popped up in the Outer Banks surf near Salvo, N.C. (Ramp 27), but spring catches remain rare.

Huge schools, some reported to be 20 miles long, are located eight to 20 miles offshore, but anglers aren't certain if they will crash the surf before heading north.

Boston mackerel, an early catch species along the Virginia coast, have failed to appear this spring. A few flounder are schooling off Eastern Shore.
