RODEO NEEDS HELP

All those trout - 5,200 pounds of them - that show up in Salem's Lake Spring Park for the annual Earnest "Pig" Robertson Trout Fishing Rodeo aren't spawned there. They are purchased from a trout farm, and they cost money, big money, $7,200.

It takes hard work on the part of Martha Robertson, the rodeo coordinator, to raise that kind of cash, and this year there has been an added problem, she said. She has been confined at home after a stay in the hospital.

Robertson has been working her contacts by phone, but she says she needs more money and is asking for contributions to be sent to Fishing Rodeos, Salem Parks and Recreation Department, P.O. Box 869, Salem, 24153.

The rodeo dates are May 8 for children 3 to 8; May 10 for handicapped children; May 12 for nursing home patients; and May 15 for children 9 to 12.
