TEACHER OF THE WEEK

Enter Vicki Reilly's Roanoke County classroom and you might find the first-year teacher with pen in hand, writing a story for English along with her pupils. Reilly said she believes it's important to "get involved" with her class. She enjoys reading to her pupils and letting them "pick apart" the stories she writes.

"Mrs. Reilly is very `alive,' " said the pupils who nominated her. "By alive, what we mean is that she does all the activities with the class. Mrs. Reilly writes stories along with us. She encourages us to want to learn and discover the art of reading and writing."

Reilly worked for a public relations firm and a television network before entering the education field. She has found her career switch a positive move. "I have wonderful kids," she said. "They make me a good teacher."

Reilly serves as newspaper sponsor and assistant cheerleading coach at Cave Spring. She is married and enjoys reading, swimming, tennis and travel.
