ABOUT THAT HOLE IN ONE CLUB'S PROFITS

A RESPONSE to your special report of the March 21 Roanoke Times & World-News entitled "Peril and Promise":

Three Bronx cheers for Countryside Golf Course - bless their Midas hearts.

I'm sure losing a few people from Dominion cut into their profits. But their big losses are not from the economy but from the owners.

At a time when the inflation rate was running 3 percent to 4 percent, the czars of Countryside, in November 1992, raised their annual dues 120 percent. Members had been milked enough, so many resigned.

Czars of Countryside, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to solve your woes. Go back to fair prices. JOE WALLER ROANOKE
