JUDGE WHO MOLESTED WOMEN IS VOTED OUT

A judge who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually molesting five women in his courthouse was voted out of office by the state Legislature on Wednesday.

The Senate voted 31-0 and the House 96-0 to oust Judge David W. Lanier from the 29th Judicial District post he had held since 1990. There is no appeal.

Lanier, 58, was sentenced in U.S. District Court at Memphis on April 12 to 25 years in prison, fined $25,000 and ordered to pay the government $1,500 a month from his state pension while imprisoned.

He was found guilty of twice forcing a woman to submit to oral sex in his office. She testified that she had come to him for a job and also had a child custody case before him, and that he implied she could lose custody of her daughter unless she submitted.
