IN SERVICE

NAVY SEAMAN APPRENTICE TROY W. GOWEN, son of David M. and Carolyn M. Thackston of 1176 Hannah Circle, has returned from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. Gowen served aboard the destroyer USS Kinkaid, which also was sent to the Persian Gulf and Somalia.

Gowen is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ CONSTRUCTIONMAN ROBERT G. BROWN, son of Roger G. Brown and Martha J. Brown, both of Vinton, has returned from a seven-month deployment to Camp Moscrip, U.S. Naval Station, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4, based at Port Hueneme, Calif.

Brown, a 1988 graduate of Staunton River High School, helped support the relief effort in Homestead, Fla., after Hurricane Andrew. He returned to Puerto Rico to start other construction and training projects.
