\ Virginia Tech pitcher Rob Gibson weathered 13 VMI hits to shut out the Keydets 6-0 in college baseball at Patchin Field in Lexington. Dee Dalton hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Denny Hedspeth doubled home a run in the third as the Hokies (25-10) took a 2-0 lead. Tech added four in the top of the ninth, two on a single by Popeye Smith. Gibson improved to 3-1.
\ At Roanoke, freshman Kirsten Wagner scored five goals as the 11th-ranked Maroons ripped Guilford 16-4 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference lacrosse match. Sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen Ostar had 13 saves for Roanoke (9-2 overall, 6-0 in the ODAC). Guilford is 2-7 and 1-4. The Maroons play host to 13th-ranked Washington and Lee 2 p.m. Sunday to determine the ODAC regular-season champion.
\ Virginia Tech heavyweight wrestler Josh Feldman, who finished in a ninth-place tie in the NCAA Tournament, was voted the team MVP for the 1992-93 season. Feldman finished with a 27-7 record.
\ Roanoke College men's basketball coach Page Moir will conduct a mini-clinic Saturday for Chapter 1, the program sponsored by Roanoke City Schools to help students on standardized tests. The clinic will be preceded at 12:30 p.m. by slam-dunk and 3-point contests at the Roanoke Academy of Mathematics and Science at 1122 19th St., N.W. The activities are open to the public.
