Amy Atkins allowed four hits as Salem improved to 9-0. Glenvar (3-5) got two hits and two RBI from Amy Moses but committed seven errors.

At North Cross, Karyn Harter went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI as the Raiders pounded Carlisle 25-6 in a Blue Ridge Conference game called after 4 1/2 innings because of the slaughter rule. Blair Calvert was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI for North Cross (4-1 overall, 4-1 conference), which sent 22 batters to the plate in a 17-run second inning. Carlisle is 0-4.
At Daleville, Jamie Switzer drove in four runs with three hits as Lord Botetourt cruised past Franklin County 16-4 in a non-district game. Shannon Deel was 2-for-2 with a bases-loaded triple for the Cavaliers (4-1). Franklin County is 4-2.
In Vinton, Heritage scored four unearned runs in the first inning and beat William Byrd 5-4 in a non-district game. Byrd held Heritage to two hits but committed five errors. The Terriers are 4-2.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: In Vinton, Chris Sowers' two goals helped William Byrd beat Northside 3-1 in a Blue Ridge District game. Andy McCaskill scored while Michael Barry and Kevin Niday had assists for the Terriers (6-0, 4-0). Aaron Curfiess scored for Northside (2-5-1, 2-3).
Jamie Bednarek scored two goals and Lord Botetourt limited guest Rockbridge County to seven shots on a windy day in a 5-1 Blue Ridge District victory. Lord Botetourt (6-2, 5-1) took 26 shots.
\ GIRLS' SOCCER: Emily Cook scored twice and assisted on another goal by Erin Strulson as North Cross turned back guest Roanoke Catholic 3-1. North Cross (2-4) led 3-0 before Annie Stelzel scored for the Celtics.
At River's Edge, Patrick Henry and Cave Spring battled to a 2-2 tie. Ayisha Whitenack and Meredith Bowden scored for the Patriots (2-0-1), who led 2-1 after the first overtime. Aimee Beightol had both goals for undefeated Cave Spring.
\ BASEBALL: At Roanoke Valley Christian, Scott Apjok went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, and scored three runs as the Eagles beat North Cross 10-3 in Virginia Independent Conference play. Nathan Hicks got the win and struck out seven Raiders (4-5, 4-5), who got all their runs from Ryan Shaver on homers in the first and seventh innings. He was intentionally walked his other two times at bat. Roanoke Valley Christian is 3-2, 3-2.
At Daleville, Matt Edwards and Donnie Meador jump-started Lord Botetourt with back-to-back first-inning home runs, and the Cavaliers whipped James River 19-6 in a non-district game. Lord Botetourt (5-1) had 18 hits by 12 players. Keith Bryant had two hits and two RBI for James River (2-3).
At Narrows, Robbie Huffman's suicide squeeze in the top of the seventh inning scored Zach Peters with the winning run as Craig County defeated the Green Wave 7-6. Johnny Crawford hit a solo homer and pitched 5 innings for the Rockets (2-7), whose only victories have come against Narrows. Ben Boardwine pitched the last 1 1/3 innings to shut down Narrows (4-2).
