TEEN GUILTY IN CARJACK SLAYING

Pam Basu's husband smiled and her father cried when a jury found a teen-ager guilty Friday of dragging the woman to her death after she was forced from a car containing her 22-month-old daughter.

Bernard Miller, 17, of Washington, D.C., leaned forward with his head in his hands as the guilty verdict on the felony murder charge was read. The slaying prompted Congress and several states to pass laws making carjacking a felony.

Basu, a 34-year-old research chemist, was beaten and forced from her car on Sept. 8. She was dragged more than 1 1/2 miles after her arm became tangled in a seat belt while fighting to get to her daughter, Sarina, in the back seat. Basu's daughter later was dropped by the roadside unharmed.
