FINNEY, James L. Sr., 75, of Circle Dr., Sheffield Terrace, Ridgeway, died
Friday, April 23, 1993 at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville. He was born
November 5, 1917 in Franklin County, VA., the son of Thomas Napier Finney and
Hattie Jamison Finney. He was a building contractor for 50 years. He was
presently employed at Bassett Industries in the maintenance department five
years. He was a member of Fontaine Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. He
was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Byrd Nappier and a brother, T. Garnett
Finney. He is survived by his wife, Zelma Crouse Finney of the home; one
daughter, Mrs. James Michael (Janie) Finney Whitlow of Salem, Va.; one son,
James L. Finney Jr. of Bartlet, Tenn.; two brothers, Charlie M. Finney of
Martinsville, J. Lewis Finney of Henry, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Sam (Susie)
Narron of Middlesex, N. C., Mrs. Tom (Helen) McKinley of Taylorsville, Ky.,
Mrs. Ryland (Delma) Richardson of Martinsville, Mrs. Gerald (Mildred) Martin
of Collinsville; five grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral
will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 26 at Fontaine Baptist Church with the Rev.
Bynum Orr and the Rev. Oscar Adams. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fontaine Baptist Church Bus
Fund, Rt. 6, Box 299, Martinsville, Va. 24112. The family will receive friends
at Fontaine Baptist Church Sunday, April 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times
at the home in Sheffield Terrace. Tomlinson Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
