WYTHE TO GET CELLULAR PHONE SERVICE SOON

Wythe County, the only part of the United Telephone service area in Southwest Virginia without cellular telephone service, may have it in a few months.

Centel Cellular, soon to become Sprint Cellular, is planning new transmission towers for Wytheville.

Future plans include "Follow Me Roaming" service, allowing callers to reach cellular customers in the service area and customers who travel.

It will allow a customer to use a cordless phone inside an office at local exchange rates and the same phone on the road at cellular rates. - Southwest bureau
