MINERS RALLY AT ESTATE IN BEVERLY HILLS

Disgruntled mine workers rallied outside the estate of a coal baron on Saturday, dramatizing their discontent with contract talks.

The United Mine Workers of America dubbed the protest, "We come for justice, not for brunch."

About 80 demonstrators gathered outside the home of Lord Gordon White, an official of Hanson Industries, parent of coal giant Peabody Holding Co. "Lord White has the power to prevent calamity in the coal fields," said UMW representative Joe Drexler.

In Evansville, Ind., Peabody Coal Co. President George S. Shiflett said he was optimistic an agreement would be reached by May 3, when a 60-day extension of the current contract expires. - Associated Press
