HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GET INVITATION TO CUBA

High school students who received a letter from Cuban President Fidel Castro this year also have received an invitation to visit the dictator's country, school officials said.

Nelson Guzman, a first secretary at the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington, faxed a note to Lafayette High School on Friday afternoon saying an invitation for the students to travel to Cuba was in the mail.

The memo said a government-sponsored high school student organization in Cuba would host the Lafayette students "any time you would like to go." Guzman visited the school last month to deliver a letter from Castro to a government class. The class had written to the Cuban leader in October.

Assistant Principal Chuck Maranzano said the School Board probably would approve the trip.
