Irvin managed the Elks Home for 21 years before his retirement in 1985. He formerly was manager of Irvin plant operations for Morton Manufacturing Corp. in Lynchburg.
Irvin held several leadership posts with the Elks, Boy Scouts, Bedford Chamber of Commerce, Lions International, United Commercial Travelers, American Red Cross, Bedford Memorial Hospital Foundation and St. John's Episcopal Church in Bedford.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Rinsland Irvin; daughter, Katherine Hughes, of Lynchburg, and son, John D. Irvin, of Daphne, Ala.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Elks Home or St. John's Episcopal Church. Arrangements are being handled by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
