OBIT COLEMAN, LUTHER S.
COLEMAN, Luther S. 71, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, April 24, 1993 at his
home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Sam and Mary Lena Bond
Coleman of Hinton, W.Va. Mr. Coleman was retired from V.P.I. & S.U. as a
refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic. He was a charter member of the
original Blacksburg Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II having
served in the Navy Seabees with the 59th, 72nd and 31st Const. Batt. He was a
member of the V.F.W. Post and also the Newport Masonic Lodge #261. He was
preceded in death by one sister, Anna Cales. Surviving are his wife of 51
years, Ruby Bennett Coleman; one daughter, Ruby Thomasson, Minneapolis, Minn.;
two sons, Luther Coleman Jr., Elizabethton, Tenn., Ed Coleman, Newport; one
brother, Robert Coleman, Hinton, W.Va.; seven sisters, Carolina Bragg and
Betty Hill, Cleveland, Ohio, Margaret Keisler, Mt. Airy, N.C., Jewell
Brinegar, Donna Bragg, Helen Fox and Mary Atkins, all of Hinton, W.Va.; also
seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be
held Tuesday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Minister
Jim Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens,
Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to New
River Valley Hospice, 1806 Price's Ford Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or to your
favorite charity. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
at McCoy Funeral Home.
