N.Y. WORKING WITH VA. ON GUN TRAFFICKING

New York state officials, unhappy with federal enforcement efforts, have begun working with Virginia to find and prosecute gun traffickers, it was reported Monday.

The New York Times said New York's arrangement with Virginia authorities is believed to be the first in the country between states seeking to control the flow of illegal weapons across their borders.

New York and Virginia state police have begun about a dozen joint investigations into gun trafficking and arrests are pending, officials said.

Authorities say Virginia has become a major source of illegal guns for Northeast cities because they are relatively easy to buy there and transport up Interstate 95.
