4 MEN FACE CHARGES AFTER BARROOM BRAWL WITH POLICE

A Sunday morning brawl at a crowded Roanoke nightspot - already facing possible revocation of its alcohol license - led to an assault on police and security guards and criminal charges against four men.

Police said a fight broke out at Caesars II about 1:30 a.m. after a group of men made sexual remarks to a female bartender.

Police said more than two dozen patrons of the Townside Road Southwest establishment were involved in the fight.

When John Dunn, a security guard, asked the men to calm down they jumped over the bar after him, police said.

Another security guard, William Burton Dunn, 29, suffered a cut on the back and head injuries from being beaten with a chair after coming to the aid of his brother.

When the first police officer arrived, he was knocked to the ground.

As the crowd ran in various directions, the officer saw a man leaning out the window of a car and threaten to shoot him, police said.

As another officer attempted to get the crowd under control, she too was knocked to the ground as about 200 people gathered outside the club. Police finally subdued the crowd using Mace and other methods of crowd control.

Wesley D. Jordan, 22, of Mayo Drive Northwest, was charged with assaulting an officer.

Gary V. Brammer, 28; Robert Lee Hunt, 23; and Sean Alexander Hunt, 21, were charged with impeding police.

On April 14, the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board held a hearing to decide whether Caesars II's license should be suspended or revoked.

Among the allegations were that it allowed noisy or disorderly conduct by its patrons and did not sell the necessary amount of food and non-alcoholic beverages to maintain its alcohol license. No ruling had been made by Monday as a result of that hearing.

Last month, the manager of the nightclub was fined $100 for violating the city's noise ordinance.
