UNITED WAY FOUNDER'S DAUGHTER NAMED CHIEF

The daughter of one of the men who helped start the Wythe County United Way several decades ago has been named its new executive director.

Debbie Gates Larson will start on the job next week. She succeeds Linda DiYorio, who resigned to become deputy director of Rep. Rick Boucher's Abingdon office.

Larson is the daughter of Art Gates, former owner of WYVE, a Wytheville radio station where she has been an announcer and sales secretary. Gates was involved in forming what was first known as the United Fund in Wytheville.

Larson is the organization's third executive director. Linda Daniel was the first to hold the position. - Southwest bureau
