VIRGINIA WESLEYAN INAUGURATES PRESIDENT

William T. Greer Jr. was inaugurated Tuesday as the third president of Virginia Wesleyan College. He identified eight goals for the school, including making community service a graduation requirement.

"We are shaping young lives here, and one of the ways that happens is through community service," Greer told about 750 people who attended the ceremony.

Greer also proposed scholarships for students talented in fine arts who want a liberal arts degree, and he called for tripling the school's endowment over the next five years and establishing visiting professorships in several fields.
