FATHER KILLS SON, SELF; DAUGHTER IS WOUNDED

A man fatally shot his 12-year-old son and wounded his teen-age daughter before killing himself, Louisa County authorities said Tuesday.

Tom Wilson, 33, was pronounced dead Monday at the scene of the shooting, his home on Virginia 659 about 20 miles east of Charlottesville, Sheriff Henry Kennon said.

Both children were taken to University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Preston Wilson, 12, died at UVa hospital. Betty Wilson, 14, remained in critical condition Tuesday.

A classmate of Betty's at Louisa County High School told The Daily Progress of Charlottesville that Wilson had recently been distraught about possibly losing custody of his children to his wife. - Associated Press
