CITY MANAGER'S BONUS DISCLOSED IN BUDGET

City Council has disclosed the salary and bonus it plans to pay City Manager V. Wayne Orton in the next budget, a move designed to restore public confidence in the allocation process.

Recent published reports have revealed payments of hidden bonuses to Orton and his predecessor over the past decade. The money was paid into the officials' retirement accounts.

After a closed-door meeting Tuesday night, the council agreed to give Orton a 17 percent increase next fiscal year, the third consecutive year that the manager has received a double-digit raise. Other city employees are expected to get 2 percent raises in the budget being considered by the council. - Associated Press
