DAVID M. ARTHUR, a personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services Inc., has achieved the certified financial planner designation by completing course work and examination requirements.

\ THOMAS S. SCHOCH of Roanoke has received Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.'s Life Plus award for December in recognition of outstanding achievement in sales of life policies.

Schoch, a sales representative at Liberty Mutual's Roanoke office, joined the company in 1982.

\ WARD A. GOODWIN JR. and NANCY B. SHEPHERD recently were recognized by the Association for Systems Management their contributions to the association and the information systems profession.

Goodwin, an applications manager at First Union National Bank of Virginia, received the Achievement Award.

Shepherd, a programmer at Atlantic Mutual Insurance Cos., received the Merit Award.

\ DAVID CUMINS, son of Kenneth and Linda Cumins of Roanoke County, has graduated from the Corporate Associate Program with Southern National Bank of Lumberton, N.C.

Cumins, a 1992 graduate of the College of William and Mary, is a credit analyst in Columbia, S.C.

\ WILLIAM G. NORK III has been honored as one of three managers in the Principal Financial Group to have the highest production of first-year associates.

\ THE ARBORGATE INN in Salem has been recognized as a "Royal" property during the company's recent property inspection.

The award reflects the steady efforts of the general manager, staff and ownership.

Lorraine Dallas is the general manager of the Salem motel.

\ ELAINE VAUGHN of Love Baskets Ltd. received a certificate of excellence in design during a recent gift basket seminar in Louisville, Ky.

\ JON D. PAINTER, personnel services coordinator in the Human Resources Department of Appalachian Power Co.'s General Office, has earned the Human Resource Certification Institute's designation of senior professional in human resources.

The Human Resource Certification Institute is the research and credentialing affiliate of the Society of Human Resources Management. Theoretical knowledge and practical experience are requirements for certification.

\ IDS FINANCIAL SERVICE INC. has Mott named three personal financial planners in its Roanoke office to the 1993 IDS Silver Team.

Barbara Limberger, Jerry Mofield and Terry Mott received the award, which is reserved for the top 5 percent of the company's 7,000 personal financial planners.

\ GAIL LaMAR has been named LaMar Woman of the Year by the Longwood Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She has been a member for four years and currently is vice president.

LaMar is a secretary with the law firm of Damico and Apgar.

\ SAFEGUARD BUSINESS SYSTEMS INC. recently recognized three employees in its Roanoke office.

Tripp Godsey received the Growth Achievement Award for highest percentage sales growth during the previous year.

Godsey has been with Safeguard for Kuehn three years and is responsible for distributing Safeguard products in the Roanoke and New River Valley area.

Donna Springer was named to Safeguard's 1993 Eagles Club in recognition of outstanding sales achievement. Springer has been with Safeguard for 13 years.

Charles T. Kuehn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Kuehn, was named the company's New Person of the Year Award.

Springer and Kuehn sell Safeguard products throughout Southwestern Virginia.

\ PATRICIA STEAHLY has been voted Woman of the Year by the Downtown Roanoke Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Steahly, who has been employed by Dominion Bank for 10 years, has been active in the chapter for three years.
