Golf tourney May 17 is charity fund-raiser

The North Roanoke Rotary Club and the Shenandoah Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will sponsor the Civic Charity Classic Golf Tournament May 17 at the Hanging Rock Golf Course.

The $55-per-golfer entry fee includes greens fees, a buffet meal and various prizes. Proceeds will help fund scholarships, Camp Virginia Jaycee, Camp Easter Seal and Habitat for Humanity.

Allstar gymnasts qualify for state meet

All four members of the Allstar Gymnastics team from Roanoke qualified for the state meet to be held May 15 in Virginia Beach.

Qualification was based on members' all-around scores at the U.S. Gymnastics Federation sectional meet, held recently in Hampton.

Team members and their scores are: Jackie Orsinger, 30.7; Megan Griffin, 33.65; Amy Henry, 32.95; and Christy Brown, 32.75.
