IN SCHOOL

JAMES E. DUGGAN of Roanoke has been promoted to associate professor with tenure in the school of law at Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale.

\ MICHELE STRAYER, a teacher at Raleigh Court Elementary School, has been chosen to serve on a statewide team of educators drafting new standards for Virginia public schools.

The Department of Education's World Class Education Standards Project team will draft new state standards so Virginia graduates will have skills comparable to students in Western Europe and the Pacific Rim. As proposed, all students will have to master the world-class standards in order to receive a high school diploma.
