ROANOKE COUNTY HONORS EMERGENCY VOLUNTEERS

Thirteen fire and rescue volunteers, each with more than 25 years of service to Roanoke County, were recognized this week by the county Board of Supervisors.

Some quick addition by Vinton District Supervisor Harry Nickens showed the men had given a total of 392 years of service to the county.

County Administrator Elmer Hodge and board Chairman Fuzzy Minnix presented each a resolution of thanks and a plaque.

Honored were: Winston B. Adams, Mount Pleasant Fire, 28 years; Lowell Aldridge, Bent Mountain Rescue, 30 years; Ernest N. Amos, Clearbrook Fire, 37 years; Willis Buchanan, Hollins Fire and Rescue, 25 years; Roy M. Crowe, Fort Lewis Fire, 25 years; Ronald S. Edwards, Cave Spring Fire, 26 years; Leon Martin, Fort Lewis Fire, 32 years; Benny L. Powell, Vinton Fire, 28 years; Bobby L. Scruggs, Mount Pleasant Fire, 38 years; Guy C. Stump, Bent Mountain Fire, 27 years; Donald R. Thomas, Vinton Fire, 31 years; Thomas E. Wagner, Mount Pleasant Fire, 38 years; Douglas K. Wirt, Cave Spring Rescue, 27 years.
