3 SMYTH RESIDENTS CHARGED IN DRUG BUST

Three Smyth County residents have been charged with trying to purchase 20 pounds of marijuana in the parking lot of a Chilhowie food store.

Two men and a woman were arrested about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday outside the store, according to Smyth County Sheriff John Grubb.

Roger Dale Dunford, 42, Richard Allen Crouse, 28, and Teresa Ann Evans, 20 - all of Marion - were charged with conspiring and attempting to possess more than 5 pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The drugs had a street value of about $40,000, Grubb said.

Police also seized $18,200 in cash and two cars.
