WOMAN, 79, DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY TRUCK

A 79-year-old woman was killed Thursday after she stepped into the path of a pickup truck in Franklin County, state police said.

Clara Franklin Tyree, of Rocky Mount, was standing on Virginia 40 near its intersection with Virginia 718 when she was hit about 3:30 p.m., police said.

She was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she died about two hours later.
