Author Charles Edwin Price will sign copies of his new book, "The Mystery of Ghostly Vera and Other Haunting Tales of Southwest Virginia" Saturday in the New River Valley Mall's Waldenbooks from 2-5 p.m.
Price's book contains 24 ghost stories, including the mystery of Virginia Intermont College's ghost, the ghosts of Abingdon's Martha Washington Inn, a spooky creature lurking the Big Stone Gap countryside, and the haunted cave near Saltville.
Price is the author of three other Appalachian tale books: "Demon in the Woods," "Haints, Witches and Boogers" and "The Day They Hung the Elephant."
Orchestra seeks players
Instrumentalists interested in forming a member-run orchestra are invited to meet Sunday at 3 p.m. at The Sedalia Center near Big Island.
The orchestra could give members opportunities to develop a variety of skills, such as conducting, arranging and transposing music, and planning programs.

Valley visitors bureau tourism week events
To celebrate Heritage Tourism and National Tourism Week, the Roanoke Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau has scheduled these events from Mounday until May 8:
Mill Mountain Zoo, the Roanoke Valley History Museum and the Science Museum of Western Virginia will offer 10 percent discounts on admission. (Items in the science museum's retail shop will also be discounted.)
The Art Museum of Western Virginia will offer free tours Tuesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. The Virginia Museum of Transportation will hold tours Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m., and will offer free admission that day.
A one-hour shuttle-bus tour will loop through Center in the Square, the Roanoke City Market, the Mill Mountain Star, Mill Mountain Zoo, and the Virginia Museum of Transportation on May 8 at 11 a.m., noon, 1 and 2 p.m.
The bureau will have on display plans for the Explore project and Hotel Roanoke. It will be open daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with free star cookies and postcards.
