Akers' body was found in a mobile home in the Carter's Park Trailer Park on U.S. 11 north of Wytheville.
Leonard Dean Gravely, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond at the Wythe County jail pending a preliminary hearing May 24.
Sheriff Wayne Pike said Akers died from two stab wounds, apparently inflicted by a 12-inch kitchen knife. He said Akers and Gravely both lived at the mobile home, and that the two got into an argument.
He said the nature of the argument was not known. - Southwest bureau
