AFTER AWARD, GOODWILL LEADER RESIGNS

John Wade, executive director of Goodwill Industries Tinker Mountain Inc., resigned Friday after 14 years with the organization that helps disabled citizens in the Roanoke Valley.

Wade's resignation came just after the organization was cited by Goodwill Industries of America as having the best retail operation among stores with less than $1 million in annual sales.

"A lot of people make career changes," Wade said. "I just wanted to leave on a high note. We just won an award and everything is going smoothly."

The organization, originally called Tinker Mountain Workshop, changed its name after merging in 1990 with Goodwill Industries of Greater Virginia.

The board's president, Clint Morse, said Wade contributed greatly by envisioning the merger of the two companies, which expanded its effectiveness and its revenue.

Debbie Williams, the assistant director, will act as interim executive director.
