Love, who lives in Pulaski County where she taught in the public schools, has been active in the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley.
She already is teaching art classes her shop, The Art Place on Chilhowie's Main Street, and is lining up other artists from the New River Valley and elsewhere for other courses and workshops in various art media.
But since she lives in Pulaski, Love cannot keep The Art Place open on a daily basis. Its regular days to be open are Thursday and Friday of each week.
Love drives to Chilhowie weekly to open it on those days, spending Thursday night with her sister, Ann Catron, who still lives in Chilhowie and is co-owner of the facility. She said it gives them opportunities to visit with one another that they have not had for years.
Many of the buildings on Chilhowie's Main Street were offered for sale last year. Love and Catron bought this one to keep it from being torn down.
They have cleaned and renovated it on the inside so that it now looks like an art gallery, and its walls are full of paintings and other works including models and crafts.
The center will have a different exhibit each month, featuring local and area artists.
Love hopes to find an artist who could rent part of the building as a studio, and be on hand to extend the hours it is open.
For now, the Art Place is serving as a showplace for all types of artists from Southwest Virginia.
