CATCHES FEW IN FISHING TOURNEY

Few trophy fish have shown up to help celebrate the Silver Anniversary of the Cave Spring Optimist Club fishing tournament at Smith Mountain Lake. The catches of the 652 tournament anglers have been on the modest side, said Ronnie Thompson, the tournament director.

In addition, the tagged fish worth $25,000 has yet to be caught.

Only two citation-size fish have been entered since the tournament opened Friday, both walleyes. The largest is 6.41-pound walleye by Philip Burkholder of Goodview, who reeled in his catch at about 2 a.m. Saturday near Hales Ford Bridge.

Here are the standings for the contest, which ends today at noon:
